Feldenkrais Method Beneficial for Artists
As an actor performing in film, television and theatre, it is fundamental to my work to
be able to move in freedom and ease and without pain. The physical and emotional demands of the acting profession make for potentially huge and debilitating stress. For years, having sustained dance and other work related injuries, I have suffered the effects of improperly directed physical movements.
Since being introduced to the Feldenkrais Method® by Feldenkrais® practitioner Frauke Voss, I have discovered a series of highly effective and organic ATM® movement lessons that are astoundingly simple. Designed to realign habitual movement patterns and creating options, Feldenkrais® work proved an enormous aid in both freeing and strengthening my physical energy, releasing vocal power, relaxing and opening constricted areas in virtually all parts of my body, while simultaneously balancing and re-educating my nervous system. Each Functional Integration® (FI) offered some new revelation as I learned so much about how the body naturally responds to heal itself when given the gentle direction and guidance toward following its own integral movement patterns.
Feldenkrais® work with Frauke Voss was an invitation for me to re-enter the awareness of my body with innocence, and reclaim an enhanced physical expression. I eagerly endorse the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education as beneficial for artists of all kinds and anyone interested in maintaining and optimal movement capacity.

The Wonders of
Feldenkrais® Method
Several
years ago I had the great good fortune to receive an FI®
lessons from Frauke Voss, a Feldenkrais®
practitioner in Toronto, Canada. As an actor for almost 40
years, I have studied many psycho-physical techniques. The
nature of my work puts tremendous stress on the body and
mind. Several years ago I began regular FI® and
ATM® sessions with Frauke whenever I was in
Toronto.
I have found
the Feldenkrais® system to be tremendously
beneficial to my health, and to my work and life. Of all
the systems I have studied over the years, including
Hatha Yoga, Aikido, Tai-chi and Chi-Kung I have found the
Feldenkrais® Method to be among the most
effective, not only to my general well-being, but also
to the use of my voice and movement.
I recommend
this system to all actors and all lines of work. It is a
life saver on many levels. My only hope is that it becomes
much better known to the general public.

Story On Pushing
Hi
There- I took your class in the Union Square studio
(with Rachel on Monday nights) in March and April. 12
days age, I had a baby girl. I want to thank you so
much for enlightening me with the Tupler method. When
it comes to push, my doctor told me to take a deep breath
and hold it for a count of ten. Though I had already
discussed with her my desire to use your technique,
I think she had more faith in the Valsalva maneuver.
(I was later told that most woman, when they exhale
on the push, usually lose all the steam that helps to
make the "push" effective.) To make a long
story short, I appeased the Doctor with one push using
"her" method just to see what it felt like.
But when I felt my head about to explode and felt I
wasn't making any progress, I exhaled and insisted I
continue with "my" method- the method I've
been practicing since I first took your class. As it
was second nature after all the practice, four contractions
later, my baby was born. Both the nurse and doctor said
the Tupler method of pushing was one of the most effective
they had seen. The nurse even came to my room the next
morning to ask me more questions about your class and
to write down the name of your book and website.
Thanks
to you I learned in your class, my birth experience
was amazing. I truly felt my abdominal muscles doing
all the work they were supposed to do, and I wasn't
out of breath or in any discomfort at all.
Interestingly
enough, my birth was filmed for a Baby Story on the
Learning Channel and will be aired in September. You'll
be able to see your Techniques put to good use. Even
the doctors said, thanks to the way I pushed, it was
truly a birth that was "made for TV!"
Thanks
to you and Rachel again. I have been telling everyone
about your class- and now that I gave birth, I am praising
Maternal Fitness even more. It was a phenomenal experience!!
Thanks
very much! Please feel free to use me as a reference
or testimonial anytime.
Sincerely,
